UK Stocks Rise as FTSE 100 Gains 0.83%

FTSE 100 Advances on Strong Corporate Performance

UK stocks ended higher on Tuesday, with the FTSE 100 index climbing 0.83% to close at 10,871.02 points as investors responded positively to gains across several major companies.

The session was led by strong performances from advertising, consumer goods, healthcare and financial services companies, while energy and banking stocks faced some pressure.

WPP Leads FTSE 100 Gains

Among FTSE 100 constituents, advertising and marketing company WPP recorded the strongest advance, with shares rising 8.15% during the session.

Chemicals manufacturer Croda International also posted significant gains, climbing 8.03%, while consumer goods giant Unilever increased 8.02%.

Financial data company Experian rose 6.31%, and food services group Compass Group completed the top five performers with a 5.90% gain.

Barclays and Mining Stocks Weigh on Index

Despite the broader market gains, several companies ended lower. Barclays recorded the largest decline among FTSE 100 companies, with shares falling 4.79%.

Utilities provider Centrica dropped 2.88%, while business services company Diploma declined 2.75%. Mining group Glencore fell 2.43%, and NatWest Group shares decreased 2.35%.

Pound and Commodities Market Update

The British pound strengthened slightly against the US dollar, rising 0.17% to $1.3309. Against the euro, sterling declined 0.14% to €1.1673.

Oil prices moved lower, with Brent crude falling 5.2% to $81.44 per barrel. Meanwhile, the yield on the 10-year UK government bond declined 5.34 basis points to 4.946%.
